Gerard Butler was born in Paisey, Renfrewshire, Scotland on November 13, 1969. Good in school, he was head boy at St Mirin’s & St Margaret’s High School in Paisley and also attended the Scottish Youth Theatre. From there, he went on to study law at the University of Glasgow.
After graduation, Butler moved to London to try his hand at acting. He had a series of small roles in films like, Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997, and Tale of the Mummy in 1998. Then in 2000, Gerard Butler had two breakout roles, one in the TV miniseries, Attila, and as Dracula in Dracula 2000. Butler has acted in 37 films since 1997, including Reign of Fire (2002), and Laura Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). In 2003, he appeared as the Phantom in the movie adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, and as the Spartan King Leonidas in 300, widely considered to be his most famous role up to that point. Gerard Butler won a MTV Music Award for his performance in 300.
Gerard Butler lives in London and supports the charity Mary’s Meals. He vacations in Barbados and his net worth is estimated at $30 million.
