With mansions in both Brentwood and Woodland Hills, Dr. Dre has come a long way from his beginnings in Compton. However, he has not forgotten them, as can be seen with the 2015 movie, Straight outta Compton. Dr. Dre is a true Renaissance man, wearing the hats of a rapper, songwriter record producer and entrepreneur. No wonder his net worth is $830 million, with about $33 million coming in each year. After all, Dr. Dre owns Aftermath record label, part of Beats (the headphone company) and just sold Beats Music, a streaming site to Apple. Dr. Dre got his start as a DJ in the club Eve After Dark. It was in the the back of the club, in a little recording studio, that he recorded his first song, “Surgery.” It wasn’t until 1984, after joining the group, World Class Wreckin’ Cru, that it was released. Dr. Dre also collaborated with Ice Cube in the group N.W.A and is credited for helping the gansta rap genre rise.
