J K Rowling is a British novelist, most famous for her young adult Harry Potter series. Sh is also a screenwriter and a film producer. Born on July 31, 1965, in Yate, Gloucestershire, England, J K Rowling was working for Amnesty International in 1990, when she got the idea for Harry Potter, a story about a young boy who finds out that he is a wizard. It wasn’t until 1997, however, that Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in the United Kingdom) was published. Seemingly overnight, J K Rowling went from an unemployed, divorced single mom on government assistance to stardom. Her net worth is estimated at $1 Billion in 2017.
In addition to seven books in the Harry Potter series, Rowling is listed as film producer for the eight movies that are based on the books. She is also the author of the screen play, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and The Cursed Child, both of which are part of the Harry Potter franchise.
In 2012, J K Rowling published her first work in the crime fiction genre, The Casual Vacancy. Continuing in the genre, she started writing under the pen name, Robert Galbraith, and published The Cuckoo’s Calling (2013), The Silkworm (2014), and Career of Evil (2015). All have the same protagonist, Cormoran Strike and all where best sellers.
J K Rowling supports several charities, such as Antipoverty and Child Welfare, Dyslexia Action and Multiple Sclerosis. She vacations in the Galapagos and in the Hamptons.
