JK Rowling sold her 19th Century Victorian Mansion for £ 2,250,000 and it only took five showings to do it!
Even though a muggle lived here, the original details make this home magical! 8 bedrooms, 4 baths, fireplaces and two kitchens casts a spell of an elegant, but comfortable feel. Incredible, considering the home is over 6,800 square feet.
What started out as one home, was created into two, when the upper and lower levels where separated into two flats. After she sold her first Harry Potter book, The Sorcerer’s Stone (or The Philosopher’s Stone as it was titled in the United Kingdom), JK Rowling purchased the upstairs flat. As the popularity of Harry Potter and friends grew, she was able to purchase the downstairs flat as well.
Bringing the home back to its original state took work, but the result was worth it. As would be expected, there is a study at the back of the house, perfect for writing. In fact several books in the series where written here.
A cozy kitchen looks out on a large garden, inviting one to wander and smell the flowers or host an outdoor party. There is a small guest cottage on the grounds. Rowling even built tree houses in the back yard. While worthy of any out building on the Hogwart’s grounds, the design was based on drawings by her daughter.
JK Rowlings conjured up a fantastic world in the Harry Potter books. It’s no wonder that her former home is magical too!
