Marlene Dietrich was a German actress and singer. Marlene Dietrich was born in Schoneberg, Province of Brandenburg, German Empire in December 1901 and passed away in May 1992. She played violin and started off as a chorus girl in Berlin. Marlene Dietrich had just as many soundtrack credits as she did acting credits. In 1923 she starred in the film The Little Napoleon. Her breakout role came in the 1930 film The Blue Angel as Lola Lola. She also acted in silent films. Her role in The Blue Angel gained her a contract from Paramount Pictures in the United States. She starred in the Hollywood movies Shanghai Express and Desire and became one of the highest paid actresses of her time. Marlene Dietrich became a United States citizen in 1939. She toured in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s as a show performer. Dietrich was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Actress – Drama. She was awarded a star on the Motion Picture Walk of Fame in 1960 at 6400 Hollywood Blvd.
