You know what they say: The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Some of the world’s most prominent Hollywood families certainly bring new truth to that old adage, with offspring following down their parents’ path to success. After all, it’s probably much easier to get rich and famous when one (or both) of your parents has already reached the echelons of stardom. From the Jacksons to the Osbournes, in these star-clad clans, fame and fortune aren’t individual ventures, they’re family enterprises. The offspring in these families aren’t just making headlines, they’re bringing in paychecks, sometimes in amounts that rival those of their parents. Take a look at some of the most successful Hollywood families, all of which with two or more members boasting multimillion-dollar net worths and a hefty list of accolades and accomplishments to back up that cash. Here is our list of the richest families in Hollywood.
1. The Jackson Family
Any list of successful celebrity families would be incomplete without this infamous clan. Arguably the most legendary family on this list, the Jacksons, has been around for the better part of the last 50 years. Getting their start as kids in the music industry in the 1960s, each member of the Jackson 5 went on to successful separate solo music and film careers. The most successful of the living eight Jackson kids is probably Janet, who had a string of hits in the ’80s and ’90s, as well as multiple acting roles. But of course, the Jacksons would be nothing without the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. In spite of scandal and controversy, the late MJ has a net worth of more than $1 billion. This fortune will continue to grow, despite Michael’s death nearly five years ago, with sustained record sales.
2. Miley & Billy Ray Cyrus
The Cyruses are to the new millennium what the Jacksons were to the 20th century. The family patriarch, Billy Ray Cyrus, was a country music hit 20 years ago, hitting No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1992 with his biggest hit, “Achy Breaky Heart.” In 2006, the world met another Cyrus clan member: Miley. Billy Ray’s daughter scored her breakout role on the Disney Channel’s hit series “Hannah Montana.” While Miley didn’t earn much money from the show, it undoubtedly launched her acting and music career. Since her Disney Channel days, Miley has starred in nearly 20 movies and television series and has released four albums. She has recently shed her innocent teen look for an edgier vibe, and while it seems that this pop star is always embroiled in some kind of scandal, the attention only seems to working to the advantage of her wallet: She is now worth $150 million. But the success of Billy Ray’s offspring isn’t just limited to Miley. Brother Trace is a member of the band Metro Station, and the band’s hit single, “Shake It,” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart in 2008.
3. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Success appears to be genetic in this legendary family. Angelina Jolie’s famous father, Jon Voight, is one of the most successful movie actors around with a career that spanned across six decades and more than 80 roles. While Voight and Jolie have had a rocky off-screen father-daughter relationship, Jolie has still managed to hit A-list status, with a net worth of $145 million and a tremendously successful career that hasn’t slowed down. Oh, and let’s not forget about Jolie’s partner, Brad Pitt, who has now also achieved success as a producer (including a 2014 Oscar for best picture for “12 Years a Slave”) in addition to being one of the world’s biggest movie stars of all time. The couple’s children also appear to be well on their way to success. Jolie’s upcoming film, “Maleficent,” even features some of her and Pitt’s offspring in their first on-screen appearances.
4. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne
The Osbourne reality show might have ended 10 years ago, but this family’s fame and fortune is still accruing. Although the world knew Ozzy from his days as a rock god as a Black Sabbath front man, the show pretty much launched the careers of the family’s other members (Sharon, Kelly, and Jack). Since the show’s conclusion, Sharon landed a co-hosting gig on CBS’ “The Talk,” Kelly has cultivated a presence on the E! Network’s “Fashion Police,” and Jack has appeared in a number of TV shows, films, and reality shows, even scoring a third-place finish on season 17 of “Dancing with the Stars.” Don’t be deceived, however. The family’s patriarch is still the main family star and breadwinner, bringing in more than $100 million in record sales as of 2014.
5. The Jenner-Kardashians
While we might not be sure what exactly this family does per say, whatever they do, it appears they’re doing it pretty well. Between the actual Kardashians (Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, and Rob) and the Jenners (Kris, Bruce, Kendall, and Kylie), this family brought in well over $50 million in 2013 alone. So, where does all of this money come from? Well, each member earns money for every episode of the family’s E! reality show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” with the three Kardashian sisters bringing in the most (around $50,000 per episode). The family also has a number of lucrative endorsement deals, and its members have also lent their name to a number of different money-making endeavors, from a Sears clothing line to indoor tanning lotions. The two youngest family members, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, are up-and-comers in the fashion world, and they are adding to the Jenner-Kardashian wealth and fame by snagging some legitimate modeling gigs. Considering this family’s staggering cumulative net worth, keeping up with the Kardashians is easier said than done.
6. Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow
One of the kings of modern comedy, Judd Apatow is the most prominent and successful member of the Mann-Apatow clan. The face behind some of the most iconic and successful comedy movies and television series over the past decade, he has directed several hits, including “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Knocked Up,” and produced dozens of other titles, including “Anchorman,” “Superbad,” “Bridesmaids,” and “Girls.” His wife and children are also garnering names for themselves, having appeared in several of his movies. Fifteen-year-old daughter Maude is a Twitter sensation, with more than 190,000 followers, and wife Leslie Mann has appeared in nearly 30 films since the 1990s.
7. The Williams
This father-daughter duo proves that success is hereditary. Father Brian Williams has been the anchor of “NBC Nightly News” for almost 10 years, helping the network to hold on to the coveted No. 1 network news program position since 2008. Currently earning $13 million a year, Brian is as adored as he is respected. Brain’s daughter, Allison, is following in his footsteps. The Yale grad earned her first starring role on HBO’s hipster hit “Girls” and is widely considered to be an up-and-coming talent in the business.
8. The Sheen-Estevezes
This family might be flying under the radar as of late, but its members still boast both fame and fortune. Charlie Sheen has stayed somewhat out of the public eye in recent years (after total scandal). The actor enjoyed a very successful TV and film career. Charlie is perhaps best known for his iconic role on CBS’ smash hit “Two and a Half Men,” which earned him a whopping $1.3 million per episode salary in 2010. Before him, dad Martin Sheen had a long run in Hollywood, appearing in nearly 250 roles over the past 50 years. Oldest brother Emilio Estevez has also had a notable film career, known as a member of the Brat Pack in the ’90s and ’80s. He is still reportedly worth around $15 million today.
9. The Hanks
The son of Tom Hanks, one of the biggest movie stars of all time who has steadily been churning out hit after hit since the 1980s, Colin Hanks proves that the apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree. With a striking physical resemblance to his A-list dad, he is also replicating his dad’s success.
