David Arquette is officially the proud owner of the renowned Hollywood strip club Crazy Girls. The $1.5 million purchase will be added to his roster of other Hollywood hot spots, Bootsy Bellows and Hooray Henry’s. TMZ broke news of the sale on September 2, 2014.
Arquette has big plans for his newly acquired club. A major renovation will transform it into a burlesque joint with a classic old Hollywood vibe, and attract high-dollar clientele. No word on whether he plans to retain the club’s current crop of dancers. Crazy Girls is known for featuring biker chicks with a hard edge.
Crazy Girls, located on La Brea Avenue just off the legendary Sunset Boulevard, is one of the oldest strip clubs in Los Angeles and has been in business for over 30 years. Mötley Crüe shot the music video for their 1987 single “Girls, Girls, Girls” there (although some sources claim it was actually the club Seventh Veil, just around the corner).
In recent years Crazy Girls has suffered in reputation, becoming more of a kitschy dive than an upscale Sunset Boulevard experience. Despite its legacy, Crazy Girls is not a true strip club. The dancers are not allowed to go completely topless, as per Los Angeles law, because the venue also serves alcohol.
Actor turned nightclub mogul Arquette has plenty of experience turning a profit on classy burlesque acts. He’s already co-owner of the wildly popular Bootsy Bellows, a venue that channels Rat Pack-era charm and features burlesque shows, live music, and even the occasional puppet. It draws high-profile visitors like Katy Perry and Justin Bieber.
Arquette is also a partner at Hooray Henry’s, a sleek nightclub inspired by the culture and aesthetics of London’s upper-elite. Exclusive and high-class, Hooray Henry’s has become another popular celebrity watering hole.
Previously, Arquette held a partnership in Beacher’s Madhouse, a Vaudeville-themed nightclub, together with comedian Jeff Beacher. Arquette left the venture in 2011, however, to focus on his recovery after being released from rehab, where he was admitted for alcohol-related issues.
No telling what Arquette will accomplish with Crazy Girls. At least he has plenty to work with; the $1.5 million price tag included all fixtures, furniture, bars, and decor. Crazy Girls’ owners originally asked for $1.7 million, but Arquette talked them down after three weeks of negotiations.
